Ancestor Croll - Self Titled
Ancestor Croll
The self-titled debut album, Ancestor Croll, was released in May, 2010. It showcases the bands many influences. Indeed, the eclectic mixture of Post-punk, ambient acoustic, and Garage rock creates an exciting, yet sensitive, mood that characterizes the album as a whole.
"Great Salt Lake" features darkly agitated vocals, a powerful bass riff, and layered guitar. The sense of ambiance is not unlike the original Manchester bands of the early 80's with a touch of modern alternative.
"The Narcissist Song" performed in a "tongue in cheek" 70's punk style, reminds us of band's such as The Clash.
"Break Your Heart With One Finger" is an out-and-out rocker that fuses The Strokes with Nirvana to produce the albums loudest and most frenzied guitar attack.
"Kakadu", "You Make Me Feel", "To the Lighthouse", and "Poor Instruments" reveal the more melodic and intimate side of the band. The classical guitar's finesse and exquisite chord changes are probably the highlights of the album.
Gorillaz is a super classic band, and for a good reason. With some of the best combinations of electronic music, featuring artists from Mos Def, to MF Doom, it's a really incredible band.
Their newest album, "The Fall", was even recording entirely on an iPad! I highly recommend they become an integral part to your music library, and I've been listening to them for the last month straight (Religiously).
