Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Arcade Fire are one of those groups that never fail to impress me. Their first album, Funeral was great and to me felt like a concept album and their lengthy 2010 album The Suburbs is very good but for me this has something special.
It's opener, Black Mirror starts with the sound of a thunderstorm and continues being dark and moody throughout. But the question is, what is the metaphoric 'black mirror?'
Could it be a dark part in someone's life? Nightmares? That's for the listener to find out.
As the album continues it's tracks get better and better. From the simple but effective Keep the Car Running to the quiet but great title track. From the epic Intetvension to the strange and haunting Black Wave/Bad Vibrations. From the effective build up of Ocean of Noise to the simply brilliant The Well and the Lighthouse. But at track eight arrives a gem.
(Antichrist Television Blues) is one of Arcade Fire'a greatest tracks. It's about a man who uses the lord to exploite his daughter by making her sing 'on that stage'. It starts off as a nice little bluesy song but at the end becomes aggressive.
After the quiet but great "Windowsill" and my favourite from the album, No Cars Go is the album finisher: My Body is a Cage. It's very organ infused but despite No Cars Go's brilliance finishes the album in a perfect way.
In my opinion the very last chord on the album is asking for another one. So to sum up, if you like music for the music, not just the sound then Neon Bible is the album for you.

About The Writer
My name is Andrew Muller. I love creative art, music, television shows, movies, video games, and a good story.
If you had to find me somewhere, you would probably find me down at O'neils home cooking eating an organic sweet-potato bun breakfast sandwich with ham.
Among my friends, it's a "Muller Classic Move" to eat Mcdonald's at 2am because it's cheap and open 24/7. The joke here is that I'm an idiot.
I play drums, guitar, piano, and I write & perform music for My Goal Is Telepathy. Take a listen to the latest sound here.
