Battles Mirrored Review Battles - Mirrored

Album Review

After about 1200 different EP's, the group of Veteran Musicians, Battles, finally decided to release the full LP, "Mirrored ".

Mirrored...what to say about mirrored. It's this mix of Chipmunk Vocals and Chinese Pop. And that isn't an insult by the way, because the album is incredible.

The album starts off with this incredibly difficult to play drum beat (Me and my drummer have been trying to learn it for months) and continues on to show Tyondai Braxton's unique style of vocals.

The Vocals have an insane amount of effects on them...but not so much that they sound electronic, but more so that they sound like someone very small is singing them (Someone about the height of a Chipmunk).

The best example of their Chinese sound would be on the song "Tonto". You will know what I'm talking about once you listen to it.

The most amazing part of that song, is about halfway through when the entire band spends about 3 minutes decreasing the tempo. They do it perfectly, and evenly, for minutes! It may seem confusing when I say it to you like that, so just listen to it!

Battles - Tonto

  • Although all those beginning tracks are fine and dandy, one of my favorite songs is "Snare Hangar".

It's only 2 minutes long, but the sporadic guitar pieces and the almost "Upbeat Skateboarder Video" sound makes it my favorite track on the album.

In the end, this album leaves me to hope that Battles will stop releasing EP's, and make another full album. And with that, I give Mirrored a...
