Why Did David Crowder Band Change My Mind About Christian Worship Music?

Take A Listen

TheRealMusician Recommends:

If you want to take marketing your music to another level, then I can't recommend enough John Oszajca's music marketing manifesto. My favorite aspect of his complete program was his stance on email marketing, where he really leverages the that "1000 true fans" philosophy.

His website is a bit hokey (Flaming guitars? Seriously?), but his program really shows independant artists how to get a leg-up on signed artists.

A Christian Band With Secular Value

David Crowder Band is the pretty much the first Christian Worship band that actually captured my musical attention.

My general attitude towards worship music is: "Musically, this sucks".

And it generally does. I find that most bands use the Christian Record label more as a marketingscheme, rather than just another avenue for them to get their music out.

Why?

Because people say "Oh well, it's worship music, and I'm honouring God, so it's okay that the music itself isn't that good".

That's crap. I know that God invented creativity, and it says clearly in the Bible that musicians should play to the best of their ability.

If I ever write a worship album, you can bet it will stand out.

Now, back onto David Crowder. I first saw them live about half an hour from where I live. I got free backstage tickets to their concert, so I figured "Why not?"

I went into the concert with a hard heart, expecting the music to be incredibly lame. I left in tears, with a new view on worship music.

Their use of awesome electronics, decent vocal lines, and "Rock-Opera" style guitar lines are emotional, and definitely genuine. These guys are not playing for any other reason than to honour god and play to the best of their abilities.

Meeting them after the show was a delight too. David was really light-hearted and playful. And pretty funny too.

They've won a bunch of awards for their music, including some secular, non-religious awards.

Anyways, if you are hoping to find a decent worship band, I recommend you check out David Crowder Band. You can listen to a few of their tracks below.

About The Writer

My name is Andrew Muller. I love creative art, music, television shows, movies, video games, and a good story.

If you had to find me somewhere, you would probably find me down at O'neils home cooking eating an organic sweet-potato bun breakfast sandwich with ham.

Among my friends, it's a "Muller Classic Move" to eat Mcdonald's at 2am because it's cheap and open 24/7. The joke here is that I'm an idiot.

I play drums, guitar, piano, and I write & perform music for My Goal Is Telepathy. Take a listen to the latest sound here.
