I think this song also addresses evolution and the tragedy of the human condition... the idea that we've evolved to the point where we have greater consciousness than animals, but this consciousness often brings horrible pain.
Reference "amoeba" - the beginnings of animal life, primitive eukaryote cells "Evaporated the fur" - humans losing their animal traits (also their protection "because it covers them")
"If you only knew the plans they had for us" - concept that humans are set apart from other animals in some way/our desire to have a special, higher purpose
"They used to have pulses in them but impulse has made them strong" - change from being driven by our instincts to rationality/lingering animal character in humans
Anyway, this doesn't fit so much within the network of the story but a lot of the lyrics in this album are pretty complex. Love your site :)
Gorillaz is a super classic band, and for a good reason. With some of the best combinations of electronic music, featuring artists from Mos Def, to MF Doom, it's a really incredible band.
Their newest album, "The Fall", was even recording entirely on an iPad! I highly recommend they become an integral part to your music library, and I've been listening to them for the last month straight (Religiously).
