Foo Fighters: Rope "Single Review"

by Joe Bryan
(Rhyl, Wales)

Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters "Rope"

What can I say about this first single off the new album “Wasting light” by the Foo Fighters?

It's is a very raw and energetic rock track.

I think there are some certain old elements brought in to this new track. It has quirky loveable aggression, but at the same time is still keeping in with the huge anthem sound they do so well.

The musicianship, as usual, is of the highest quality; each band member has a crucial role in this god like sound, all of them adding something different.

First off, the vocals; there is no possible way you can fault them,.

I consider Dave Grohl to be one of the most consistent vocalists in the rock genre. He never fails to prevail with that massive voice; it's like he’s attacking the microphone like he would a drum kit.

The guitars resemble what I consider to be almost a perfect tone, and from a guitarist perspective I understand how hard it is to create great crunchy tones with awesome clarity.

It is unfathomable to me how they manage to still have this super gainy tone at the same time; each note is heard perfectly.

I must say that Taylor Hawkins (drums) performance on this Track is of the highest quality.

Everything is kept moderately simple, but when it comes to the fill’s he tears it up like there’s no tomorrow pulling out some gut busting beats! Especially on his solo before the guitar solo, that made the track for me it had such a John Bonham feel to it.

As always Nate Mendel delivers a tight and signature bass line, which gives great depth to the track.

I’m so happy to see Foo Fighters taking over commercial radio channels for a few weeks, as it showcases the great quality and musicianship of the rock genre.

Obviously, credit is also due to Butch Vig (producer), who also worked on some early Nirvana tracks.

As you can tell I’m rather fond the of this song, and the band! But from what I’ve seen this seems to be the general consensus among the public, everybody is going mad for this track and I cant wait for the next single.

This band never fails to produce such a great standard of music, and Rope is just another song to add to the list of classic Foo Fighters tracks.
