Stiz, Jow, Josh, and THE sean
So I started this band back in high school with a good buddy of mine, the drummer Steven.
I ended up moving away for a while. when I came back, they had just finished their first CD, so naturally I was STOKED to finally go see one of their shows. Josh, the guitar player, being the joker he is, started off the show playing some weird single note plucking that had nothing to do with anything and quite frankly, sounded horrible, especially as he was missing a lot of notes.
I even heard a couple of drunk jack-asses in the back saying stuff like, "what the hell is this?" and then the first song started, violently, but melodic at the same time, quickly silencing any critic who dared question their musical ability. GENIUS.
They roared through their set-list, transcending what mere mortals had once thought was music. the drums painting a beautiful landscape of poly-rhythm heaven. The bass and guitar sword-fighting each-other like mad men possessed. The vocals permeating the air in a way that would make Maynard poop himself. Their energy was um-matched. It felt beautiful, yet dangerous to watch unfold.
Not only did the hair on my neck stand up like privates at attention, the hair across my WHOLE body gave a heart-felt ovation. If you have not had the pleasure of continuously soiling your underwear to this band, I STRONGLY suggest you check them out on myspace. Kind of sounds like the technical genius of TOOL had a gorgeous baby with the ferocity of Mudvayne.
Check them out, or I will mercilessly hunt you down and beat you with a sack full of baby kittens. Thank you for listening.
Gorillaz is a super classic band, and for a good reason. With some of the best combinations of electronic music, featuring artists from Mos Def, to MF Doom, it's a really incredible band.
Their newest album, "The Fall", was even recording entirely on an iPad! I highly recommend they become an integral part to your music library, and I've been listening to them for the last month straight (Religiously).
