Many would consider Meshuggah to be the most influential metal band ever to exist. Going through the list of bands that attribute them to their "list of influences" would probably take a few days - at least.
Their use of progressive, technical, and just plain heavy elements, along with complex time signatures and face ripping vocals are only a small part of their genius.
Ever seen a 4/4 Drum beat mixed over top of a 25/16 Guitar part? Do you even understand what that means? That's Meshuggah for you.
If you love heavy, then Meshuggah is for you.
Are they nihilistic? Does a dog rub it's bare crack on your floor after it poops? They're "life is meaningless" through and through, yet their drive for writing insane music goes on.
I'd highly recommend giving their "I" EP a listen through. It's a single track that's over 20 minutes long. It opens with the hypnotizing array of guitars and drums, and opens up into a wall of screeching vocals and cymbals around 1:30. From there you'll find yourself only more and more impressed.
Jens Kidman (Meshuggah frontman) makes one of the most special faces as he bares his lower teeth to the camera. It's so hilarious that even Leonardo Di'caprio likes to copy it, in one of the best viral videos I've ever seen, parodying one of my favorite films of 2014.
My name is Andrew Muller. I love creative art, music, television shows, movies, video games, and a good story.
If you had to find me somewhere, you would probably find me down at O'neils home cooking eating an organic sweet-potato bun breakfast sandwich with ham.
Among my friends, it's a "Muller Classic Move" to eat Mcdonald's at 2am because it's cheap and open 24/7. The joke here is that I'm an idiot.
I play drums, guitar, piano, and I write & perform music for My Goal Is Telepathy. Take a listen to the latest sound here.
