Mirrorkicks - Breathe without this

Breathe Without This
Mirrorkicks are yet to break the big time but they clearly have potential and seem to have found a place on some good local stations.
It's hardly surprising - half-way down their press release I learn they were involved in the campaign to save BBC 6 music which must have scored some points among the muso crowd.
And the points ratchet up when I hear the tracks I have been sent... The first, 'Pincushion Heart', is clearly the lead single - I've no idea what he's singing about but its wordiness is part of its charm and the agitated verses and gutsy chorus will repeat in your head for days.
The other notable success is 'Choose without this' - too close to Kings of Leon for some, but this will no-doubt seal its appeal for others. There's no 'Sex on fire' here but I'm intrigued by this band.
I can find nothing but praise for their live gigs and they seem to be making a name for themselves with some quirky (if at times bizarre) videos. This new EP leaves me wanting more, which these days is unusual and must be a good sign. Watch them - their time may be coming. Mirrorkicks launch their new EP at The Borderline, Central London, on 8th April.
