I actually first got into Mr. Bungle's last album, California. I thought they were pretty neat, and extremely experimental.
And then I started listening to their first Self-Titled album. Especially "My Ass is On Fire", which is a hilarious song.
The band is just this...huge collaboration of Mike Patton's inner genius. I'm not sure if I would go as far as to say it is weirder than his other project, Fantomas, but it certainly is up there.
I will say, if you are scared easily by new ideas, you may want to stay away from Mr. Bungle. Because it's a wild, and mysterious, and sometimes sickening ride (Think "The Girls of Porn" which is about Mike Patton's Pornography Addiction).
But if you craze a vast amount of rocking beats, crazy noises, and an exploration of Mike Patton's incredibly disturbing psyche, then Mr. Bungle is for you.
Noticeable Traits
Some incredibly funky, slap bass beats.
Never again will I think of a bowel disease without laughing about "My Ass Is on Fire".
Surf Music? Some of it sounds like some sort of Hawiian Collaboration, with the middle-east.
Mike Patton's Vocals are, as usual, awesomely original.
