Muse The Resistance Review Muse - The Resistance

(A.K.A. The Environmentally Friendly Album)

If I could sum up Muse "The Resistance " for you...in only 41 words, I would call it "The Album where Muse ran out of ideas, so they decided to use all of their old songs, smash them together, and then throw in some Marilyn Manson, Queen, Rihanna, and every other artist you can think of for good measure."

The first song, Uprising, hits you hard with one of the most blatant musical plagiarisms since boy bands learned how to use a microphone.

In fact, there were so many "Plagiarisms" in this album, I have created a chart, to show you exactly How Alike these songs really are.

Note: Some songs will be compared to old Muse songs, to reinforce the "Recycling" aspect of this review.

Muse Rip-Off Chart
Song From "The Resistance" Sounds Like:
Uprising "Personal Jesus" by Marilyn Manson, "Call Me" by Blondie and "Atlas" by Battles
Undisclosed Desires "Strangelove" by Depeche Mode
United States Of Eurasia "We Are The Champions" by Queen
Guiding Light "Are We The Waiting" by Greenday
Unnatural Selection "Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist and Newborn" by Muse
I Belong To You "Feeling Good" by Muse
Exogenesis (Overture) "Blackout" by Muse. Also the twisted Jenova Battle song from Final Fantasy 7.
Exogenesis (Cross-Pollination) "Butterflies and Hurricanes" Piano Solo by Muse
Exogenesis (Part 3) "Moonlight Sonata"

The only songs on this album I actually liked, to any degree, were Unnatural Selection, MK Ultra, and Exogenesis (All 3).

And that's not to say that I loved them or anything, but they were the only songs that I could handle without wanting to drink bleach.

Set List

  1. Uprising
  2. Resistance
  3. Undisclosed Desires
  4. United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage)
  5. Guiding Light
  6. Unnatural Selection
  7. MK Ultra
  8. I Belong to You/Mon Cœur S'ouvre à ta Voix
  9. Exogenesis: Symphony Part I (Overture)
  10. Exogenesis: Symphony Part II (Cross Pollination)
  11. Exogenesis: Symphony Part III (Redemption)

I do give them credit for protecting our endangered earth though.

I really think the band is doing their part in this world because they didn't bother to write anything original with this album. They simply re-used old chord progressions, guitar riffs, and vocal parts.

See! No more excess waste from original music!

To better help you understand "The Resistance" as an album, I offer you an alternative album title that I believe is much more suitable, considering the nature of the album.

And they do, you can trust me on that.
A Picture of the band Muse, with the words we recycle written across them.

In Short, this is The Album where Muse ran out of ideas, so they decided to use all of their old songs, smash them together, and then throw in some Marilyn Manson, Queen, and Rihanna and every other artist you can think of for good measure. (As stated at the beginning of the review...see what I did there? I began with my Conclusion, and Concluded with my beginning...I must be some sort of literary genius!)

Featured Band:

Gorillaz

Gorillaz is a super classic band, and for a good reason. With some of the best combinations of electronic music, featuring artists from Mos Def, to MF Doom, it's a really incredible band.

Their newest album, "The Fall", was even recording entirely on an iPad! I highly recommend they become an integral part to your music library, and I've been listening to them for the last month straight (Religiously).
