Portal - Vexovoid

by Michael Schiller Bower
(New Orleans, Louisiana, USA)

The gods of grimness and dissonance have finally released the most bone crushing dirge of the post-apocalyptic year of 2013.

Hailing from Australia, Portal has consistently provided its listeners with the most dismal and deeply confusing fusions of noise of any current extreme metal band. Vexovoid takes this notion a step further; defying all characteristics of “pleasant” sound.

The baffling time signatures and desirably dreadful atmosphere of Vexovoid will be immediately acknowledged after listening to the opening track: “Kilter”. By the third and track, listeners will notice the omnipresent theme of gradual ascension and compositional intensification followed by moments of atmospheric ebbing and fading out.

With every segment stemming from extraordinarily low pitches, the harmonies heard in Vexovoid are as off the charts raw as can be. The 35 minute symphony of doom is tailed with a solemn yet thought-provoking piece, leaving its committed listeners (those who manage to withstand the ingeniously treacherous masterpiece in its entirety) with a withered sense of reality.

About The Writer

My name is Andrew Muller. I love creative art, music, television shows, movies, video games, and a good story.

If you had to find me somewhere, you would probably find me down at O'neils home cooking eating an organic sweet-potato bun breakfast sandwich with ham.

Among my friends, it's a "Muller Classic Move" to eat Mcdonald's at 2am because it's cheap and open 24/7. The joke here is that I'm an idiot.

I play drums, guitar, piano, and I write & perform music for My Goal Is Telepathy. Take a listen to the latest sound here.
