My "Work At Home For Myself" Dreams Became Reality. Have Yours?

Have you ever wondered what life is like when you don't have to answer to a Boss everyday? Where you get to support yourself without having to break your back in a laboring job?

Let me tell you about my life, as an 18 year old kid, fresh out of high school, who experiences each one of these.

Take a minute to listen, because if you don't, you might not find out how I became my own boss.

My Day Working From Home (Almost A Typical One!) (Ps: I Have lots of pictures here, but you will soon find that they obviously aren't as much about my day, as much as they are about my life and the things I enjoy) I woke up in the morning, and took about an hour or 2 to get ready for the day. I generally have a big breakfast, you know about these right? Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes with an especially generous helping of Agave Nectar (It's like syrup...only sweeter!)...the works! Then I go to work. I walk about...25 steps to my office, and get going. Some people call me young. Yes I know, I'm 18 years old. Yes, I know, at such a young age I already run my own business from home. I Built This! : Even Though I Run A Business, I Still Have More Than Enough Time For All Of My Hobbies But hey, sometimes life catches you by surprise that way. Heck, 6 Months ago I had no clue that I would be my own boss. Anyways, sorry for the distraction (I'm a bit ADHD. . . . . Ok I'm REALLY ADHD). But after breakfast I get to work for a while. Generally I try to squeeze in a full 7 hour day. I think my favorite part of the work day is that I have the freedom to stop anytime I like. For example, if some inspiration strikes me after an especially good "Grizzly Bear" song, I put work on hold, pull out my guitar and start writing. Me Riding the Flowrider aboard my Royal Caribbean Cruise No one is there to hound me, or get me in trouble for missing work. It's my own choice, so even the work part of it is that much more enjoyable. If a friend wants to go out for lunch for an hour and a half (And these are typical), then I can do it without breaking a sweat about having to "ask" to leave work. Frankly, the freedom sometimes goes to my head! The Freedom To Use Bose! As a musician, I find this to be an incredible tool, because Inspiration often strikes at the worst times. But there are no bad times when you can work when you want, are there? And I tell you, I love playing music. Every once in a while my brother Dennis will come over and play some music with me. He's a drum guy, while my main instrument is the Guitar (Although I still greatly enjoy the Piano and the Drums). That is me down there, Rocking out with my brother. Me (On the left) Jamming With My Brother Dennis I used to work for him dry walling before I started my business, but there aren't any hard feelings between us at all (I think he might even be proud of me sometimes...).

How Did I get to be my own boss?

By this time you are most likely wondering how I got to be in a position where I can live this way.

And I am not really good at keeping secrets (Usually coincides with being ADHD).

Getting Ready for the climb up the Waterfall in Jamaica...or at least resting on the drive.

But before I tell you the secret to how I became my own boss, I want you to know what I was looking for in life (And you have to PROMISE not to scroll down and skip this!).

Before I Became My Own Boss, I Was Looking For:

• A creative outlet that pays the bills.
• More time to spend with my family and friends.
• Freedom to travel anywhere in the world, and take my job with me...or not!
• Something to help me turn my passion into something that made me money.
• A True Business (Not a Get-Rich-Quick Scam.) that earns income whether I am working or not...even while I sleep!

Now this seems like a very refined list of things to want, but I had help making that list!

How I Made My List:

When I was 16 years old, I was stumbling across the internet (Yeah...I'm a stumble upon addict), and I came across an article titled "10 Reasons You Should Never Get A Job" by Steve Pavlina.

Frankly, it spoke to me, and I realized that I didn't want to put up with another terrible, demanding, and life-sucking job/boss again.

Here are a few things I took from the article:

After reading this, I was inspired to find a way to make it without a job.

But I had not a clue about where to start. How could I successfully take control of my future?

And then Steve recommended something called "Site Build It!".

Site Build It! (SBI!) helps anyone with a passion or hobby turn it into a successful, income-generating business. It was created by Ken Evoy (Below).

If I were to sum up Ken Evoy in a sentence, I would say "Ken Evoy helps you fire your boss and take control of your life".

Ken is continually making changes, taking requests, and answering questions from all of his SBIer's (And there are thousands).

But enough about Ken for now, let's talk about SBI!

Not only that, but it is recognized by the Better Business Bureau (The BBB, those are the people in charge of bringing down scams) as a Trusted Program.

So...do you have a passion or hobby? Because if you do, you can turn it into a business!

You don't need any knowledge about coding, web design, widget, woogles, zip-dee-doots, googleplexes, and any other gizmo's and gadgnots.

All you need is yourself, and the love of your passion.

Now the Internet is incredibly complicated to become successful in (Probably much much more than you realize), but Site Build It! makes it simple, so that anyone can do it. (By the way, before I invested in SBI!, I was able to speak to Judd Burton by telephone, who is mentioned in the video.)

My Band

Okay, so let's get back on track (After all, this IS my about page!)

Music is my number 2 lifelong passion (Next to my relationship with God), and I plan to do it forever.

I have been blessed a hundred times over by being able to play and write music with my two best friends, Mike Schellenberg and Jet Crossley in our band A Human Nothing.

We started writing music in September of 2009, and have played together for a year previous to that (Just covers though).

I love writing and recording with them, and talking about philosophy and psychology, and just being able to explore myself as an individual and find out what makes me tick.

I've only just graduated from high school in June of 2009, so it's "That Year" where you are finding out what you are going to do with your life, what job will you have (Or will you be self-employed) and all those stressful thoughts.

But I'm thundering through it as best as I can, and trying to keep a positive outlook on it all!

And still remember to record music with the guys whenever I can (And seeing awesome concerts).

Some other Endeavors

I definitely enjoy video games here and there (Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite games of all time, along with anything Half-life Related), and I also have just discovered my passion for anime (Mainly Studio Ghibli films, and Dragonball Z).

So essentially, I'm a bit of nerd, who also loves the guitar...which is kind of the antithesis of Anime. That makes me a certainly strange and eccentric character if you were to ever run into me on the street.

But no worries, you probably don't live anywhere near me anyways
