My Experience:
The Dillinger Escape Plan...well I hated them at first.
For a good portion of my life, I hated screaming to a massive degree. Not intense screaming (Nine Inch Nails Style), but when they were growling for no reason in particular.
And after hearing "Between The Buried And Me" do their live performance of "Colors" I started to become respectful of the whole Growling/Screaming style.
So after going through that, I came back to the Dillinger Escape Plan, and listened to their album "Ire Works". It just made more sense to me.
The Dillinger Escape plan is a truly unique band. They go through many different styles of music (Usually some variation of Mathcore) and their sense of humor is unmistakable (A Song called "Milk Lizard").
Check them out.
Noticeable Traits
Lots of Growling and Screaming
Guitars are often dissonant.
Sometimes Progressive in style, sometimes not.
The Live performances will blow you out of the water, and are often accompanied by Fire-Breathing.
The band is even better when joined by Mike Patton ("When Good Dogs Do Bad Things" is easily my favorite DEP song.)
Trent Reznor Openly endorses the band, saying that he thinks they kick ass.
