The Residents

The Residents

The Residents

One of the most mysterious and creative groups to exist in modern music, The Residents have proved album after album that they are one of the most artistic and innovative bands to exist in recent times.

For 40 years they have been making music and going on tour, showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Nobody knows their true identities because they wear elaborate costumes and masks to cover up their faces. They also generally refuse to accept interviews.

Their stage shows are very theatrical, and their music is VERY far from ordinary which makes it difficult for some people to appreciate them. It is not easy to place The Residents in a specific genre and they are usually just considered to be avant-garde.

Overall, I have yet to know of a band before or since that could be comparable to them in terms of sound and style. Also, they have been a big influence on many forward-thinking bands such as Mr. Bungle, Primus, Animal Collective, They Might Be Giants, and Renaldo and the Loaf.

Andrew Says:

I checked out the song "Diskomo". I can definitely see how it would have an influence on Animal Collective and Mr. Bungle.

I actually even can sense Zech's Marquise getting a little bit of style from them.

Man those Eyeball heads are creepy though man...

I'm not sure how much I actually enjoy the music, but I can definitely appreciate it for what it is, especially since some of these songs are doing some really interesting electronic stuff, except 31 years ago.

I can see how they've shaped music in some way, so thanks for the add!
